Reflexology is an ancient technique where the feet mirrors the body which are mapped out into areas called reflex points. As a reflexologist I use my thumbs and fingers to work the reflex points on either the feet or hands. I work the reflexes to bring a response to the corresponding part of the body.shutterstock_85489432

Reflexology is a holistic therapy which works to treat both the mind and body  if you have a physical illness this can affect the mind through stress or if you have an emotion issue then this can affect the body in many ways.

Reflexology helps to rebalance and restore the body as a whole.

How does it work

It is based on the Chinese belief that energy flows through the body when we are balanced and in harmony with our lives emotionally and physically. Should this energy become blocked symptoms or illness may occur. By unblocking the energy this enables healing to take place.

This area on the foot may feel tender or gritty as crystal deposits may have formed. Working on these areas can help break them down helping to restore energy flow and release waste or toxins.

How can it help me

Reflexology is suitable for all ages babies and children respond well as they do not have any preconceived ideas. You do not have to be feeling unwell to benefit some of my clients find that regular monthly treatments helps keep their stress levels down helping them to cope with their busy lives.

It  may be effective in helping with many conditions including some of the following:-

  • Fertility issues
  • Hormones
  • Pregnancy
  • Headaches/migraines
  • Stress related conditions
  • Sleep/insomnia
  • Digestion problems (IBS)
  • Back Pain (to help relieve pain)

Clients often report feeling lighter, very relaxed and calmer than when they arrived for their treatment.

    Found this very useful as I wasn’t really sure what reflexology entailed. I’m really interested in booking a session soon to help relax & also I am struggling with lack of sleep at the moment & I think it’s probably stress related. What I like about this post is it sounds a very relaxing process, I’m going to take an hour out to get this as a relaxing treatment rather than going for a beauty treatment – and if it then helps with stress and sleep issues that will be a fantastic added bonus!

    I agree with your comment, Karen, about the additional benefits of having regular relaxation treatments. The beauty for me is that reflexology always delivers “pampered calm” and a general feeling of being “centred.”

    Following the loss of my business during the credit crunch I suffered quite badly from anxiety, sleeplessness and a whole host of other issues. I was recommended reflexology and gave it a try, I’ve never looked back. Not only for having the treatments but I decided to train as a reflexologist to help others I need.
    A wonderful therapy and a very concise description.
