Get Walking

May is National Walking Month and a form of exercise which I really enjoy. Not only does it help you get fitter. It can help you emotionally to feel better. Perfect for fertility, pregnancy,  and helps our hormones and stress levels.

What are the health benefits from walking:

  • Improved mental/emotional wellbeing
  • Helps our circulation
  • Reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes

Start off slowly if you are not very fit. 10 minutes down the road and back is a great start. Gradually increase to twice daily.

Are you are a morning person? Go for a stroll first thing, or in the evening if you prefer.

Walking briskly to get your heart rate up. Furthermore it will help with weight loss.

Purchase a pedometer so you can see how many steps you have done in a day. You may be surprised how many you have done or realise you need to improve your activity. Aim to walk at least 10,000 steps per day. It sounds a lot but it is achievable.

Take the stairs and not the lift. Park further away from work or the shops.

Try not to sit for more than an hour, get moving.

Join a walking group this makes you answerable, plus you make friends at the same time.

Finally being out of doors and with nature is so relaxing and wonderful to see the different stages of our seasons.
